Los Angeles Rams: 3 Keys to Victory in Week 10 vs. Seahawks

USA TODAY Sports

Contain Russell Wilson

The Rams got lucky last game against the Seahawks, as Russell Wilson didn’t run the ball not once. Since Week 5, Wilson has been more reluctant to run, running it 13 times for 76 yards.

Wilson is one of the most dangerous quarterbacks with his ability to make plays with his legs. The Rams will need to collapse the pocket, while also preventing Wilson to extend plays with his legs.

The Rams have done a pretty nice job against Wilson in his career though. In 13 games, Wilson is 6-7 against the Rams, while being sacked 51 times.

Aaron Donald has accounted for eight of those sacks in nine games. Donald has been an absolute wrecking ball to opposing defenses, racking up 10 sacks this year (second most in NFL).

Donald is also leading the league in defensive pressure rate according to Pro Football Focus.

Donald is key to the Rams ability to contain Wilson. Wilson the past couple of years, has had high-praise for the Rams interior lineman, labeling him “the greatest defensive player he’s ever played against”.

Here’s Wilson commenting on Donald before the Seahawks faced the Rams in 2017.

“When I think about Aaron Donald, he’s probably in my opinion, the best defensive player I’ve ever played against in terms of actually playing in a game against,” Wilson told reporters Thursday, per The Seattle Times. “That’s a pretty big statement; I’ve played against some really good guys. I think back to my rookie year and my second year when I played against guys like [Navarro] Bowman and [Patrick] Willis and all of those guys are in my head, the top guys I’ve ever played.

“I think about a guy like Aaron Donald, he’s definitely there too as well, so I have tremendous respect for how he plays the game. He’s really, really tough, he’s really quick, and he’s pretty special. You look forward to those matchups just because those are things that you’ll remember and those are the things that you’ll tell your kids one day ‘I played against this guy,’ and those are fun things. He’s definitely one of those guys that will probably be a Hall of Famer no doubt.”

The Rams are familiar with how Wilson likes to play, so nothing he does comes as a surprise anymore. The Rams will just need to go out and execute their game plan if they expect to win on Sunday.
