The Los Angeles Rams totaled just 41 sacks this past season, which ranked in the bottom third of the NFL.
Yes, the Rams have young pass rushers like Kobie Turner and Byron Young, and future Hall-of-Fame defensive tackle Aaron Donald remains in tow.
But overall, Los Angeles does not have a ton of pass-rushing depth, which is why it is an area of need for the club heading into the offseason.
So, just how will the Rams address the issue?
Los Angeles has considerable cap room as free agency approaches, so it can certainly afford to make a major signing. Or, it can swing a big trade.
Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon proposes that the Rams send a third-round draft pick to the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for edge rusher Khalil Mack, who is entering the final year of his deal.
The Chargers are currently mired in a miserable salary cap situation and can certainly save a decent chunk of money by ridding themselves of Mack.
Mack is coming off of a brilliant 2023 campaign in which he racked up a career-high 17 sacks to go along with 74 tackles, five forced fumbles and 10 passes defended.
The only issue with Mack is that it marked the first time he logged double-digit sacks since 2018, and with the superstar being 33 years old, you have to wonder if he can replicate that production (or even close to it) next season and beyond.
Still, with the Rams needing pass-rushing help, Mack would be a fine addition, even if he is only able to generate half of the sacks he had this past year.
Mack has made eight trips to the Pro Bowl while earning three First-Team All-Pro selections in his career. He also won a Defensive Player of the Year award with the Oakland Raiders back in 2016.
We’ll see if the Rams try and upgrade their pass rush this offseason. Maybe that will include attempting to trade for Mack.
