The Denver Broncos surprised quite a few fans when they opted to release veteran running back Melvin Gordon during the middle of the season. Just like the Broncos, the Los Angeles Rams also surprised people when they released Darrell Henderson today. Could the Rams now turn their attention to bringing Gordon on board.

Following the release of Henderson, the Rams only have two running backs left to work with. Cam Akers, who has struggled a lot this season, is the obvious starter. Behind him, the Rams have rookie Kyren Williams.

Taking a look at Gordon would make a ton of sense for the Rams. Gordon has had some fumbling issues this season, but would provide Los Angeles with a very potent two-way threat in their offense.

In 10 games with the Broncos this season, Gordon ended up carrying the football 90 times for 318 yards and two touchdowns. Those numbers round out to 3.5 yards per carry. He also caught 25 passes for 223 yards.

On the negative side of things, Gordon has fumbled a total of five times this season. His team has lost two of those fumbles.

While there are concerns about the fumbling problems, Gordon would be a solid pickup for the rest of the season. He could end up being a piece that comes back for another year in the offseason if he plays well. The Rams are just 3-7 this season and their playoff hopes are all but gone, so why not take a chance on a guy that could play his way onto the team next season?

Melvin Gordon should have a few different teams to choose from. Another option might be the Philadelphia Eagles, who were aggressively looking for running back help at the trade deadline. If the Rams come calling though, it would be a hard opportunity for Gordon to pass up.
