Matt LaFleur speaks out on Rashan Gary’s impressive play for Packers

Rashan Gary was the No. 12 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers and rarely saw the field in his rookie season. When he did see the field, he did not make a major impact. Some fans were very disappointed with the selection and everyone wondered what to expect from Gary in 2020.

However, just two games into the season, Gary has become a massive threat for the Packers’ defense. He has recorded six total tackles and 1.5 sacks. That kind of production makes Green Bay’s pass-rush even more dangerous with both Preston Smith and Za’Darius Smith on the field.

Following his big Week 2 performance against the Detroit Lions, head coach Matt LaFleur spoke out about Gary. He had nothing but good things to say about the Packers’ second-year pass-rusher.

“He’s got a better understanding of what it is we’re asking him to do, his assignments, the adjustments within a play, and he gives great effort down-in and down-out.”

Gary has turned heads this season. If he can continue his production from the first two weeks of the season, he will end up with a massive year.

Standing in at 6-foot-5 and nearly 280 pounds, Gary is a physical monster. He is a load for opposing offensive lines to block. Not only is he a big body, Gary has great speed and athleticism to go with his size.

At just 22 years old, the sky is the limit for Rashan Gary with the Packers. LaFleur and Mike Pettine could not be more excited to see what the future holds for him. If the first two weeks of this season are any indication, Gary could end up being a star.

Expect to see Gary continue performing at a high level this season. Matt LaFleur will have quite a few more good things to say about his young pass-rusher before the end of the season.
