The quarterback position is one that the Denver Broncos are likely to look to upgrade this offseason. Drew Lock has proven to not be the long-term option, while Teddy Bridgewater has a pretty low ceiling. Could taking a look at Atlanta Falcons star quarterback Matt Ryan be a potential option?
Denver has to find a head coach before they find a quarterback, but it is an area of need. They are a team to keep an eye on throughout the offseason as they will be looking at every avenue to bring in some help under center.
In mock drafts, the Broncos are one of the teams that could select a quarterback. If they wait until later in the offseason to make a move, there are plenty of veterans that could be available via trade.
Last offseason, they were linked to both Aaron Rodgers and Deshaun Watson. Both could be on the move this offseason and the Broncos would likely be a potential suitor once again. Another name to keep an eye on is Matt Ryan.
Over at ESPN, Ryan was named as a potential target for the Broncos, but with a caveat. He would not likely be their first option, but given the state of the rest of the roster, it is not beyond the realm of possibilities that Denver would be contenders depending on how big of an upgrade they make at the quarterback position.
The Falcons are in the early stages of a rebuild and could move on from Ryan this offseason. While they have spoken highly of him, it would be hard for them to pass up on a trade offer that nets them a high draft pick, which ESPN believes he would be worth.
Ryan isn’t as explosive as he once was but is still a capable producer. He threw for 3,968 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2021 while also throwing 12 interceptions. His QBR of 46.4 was tied for 21st, so it is debatable about how much of an upgrade he would be for Denver.
Leaving the Falcons, who play in a dome, for the tough weather conditions of Denver is also something that needs to be considered. But, the players that the Broncos have at the skill positions are good enough to help elevate the play of any quarterback that they acquire this offseason. Matt Ryan could be a perfect fit for the Broncos.
