Miami Dolphins: 3 Best Performances in Week 5 Loss vs Bengals

Kirby Lee – USA TODAY Sports

Jakeem Grant

At only 5’6″, Jakeem Grant is pretty much always the smallest guy on the field no matter who the Miami Dolphins’ opponent is. But that small stature doesn’t stop Grant from coming up big when the team needs a spark. Whether it’s on a trick play, a big return, or a deep pass, you can almost always count on Grant to be a solid contributor for the team. Today was no different, as Grant was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise embarrassing game.

Today, as with most weeks, Grant’s main contribution came in the special teams game. He’s one of the best return specialists in the game, and he showed that again today. Grant consistently gives the Miami Dolphins offense good starting field position, a contribution that should not be overlooked.

The Dolphins offense hasn’t been able to do much with the good starting field position, but that’s not on Grant. Who that falls on depends on who you ask — head coach Adam Gase, quarterback Ryan Tannehill, or both — but one thing is for sure, it’s not on Grant.

Today, not only was Grant there to give the Dolphins offense good field position — which he did — he also provided the spark the Dolphins needed when the team was sputtering. With a 71 yard punt return for a touchdown, the Dolphins looked like they would cruise to victory. That was obviously not the case, but not for a lack of contribution on Grant’s part.
