Jason Sanders

You know a game was ugly when you’re hyping up the kicker. Not many things went right when one of the best things you can say is “Our kicker nailed multiple kicks and didn’t miss”. Yet, here we are. Beyond Drake and Parker, not very many guys in a Dolphins jersey played well Thursday night.

The offensive line is in shambles. Time looks like it’s finally catching up to Cam Wake and his pass-rush compatriots. The wide receiver groups has been decimated by injuries. Linebacker and cornerback have been problem areas for the team all season, and were exposed again in a big way on Thursday. It was ugly almost all around. But for all the ugly, kicking was one of the few bright spots.

Kicker was a position I was extremely worried about coming into the season. Jason Sanders has largely put those fears to rest, though. He hasn’t been perfect, but with the new kicking format in the NFL, few kickers are these days. He’s managed to nail all but one extra point this season, and has only missed one field goal. Thursday was Sanders’ best performance to date, going 3-for-3 on field goal attempts and knocking in two extra points for a total of 11 points.
