Increase Efficiency
The Miami Dolphins have featured a high octane offense so far this season. It’s been quite the departure from offenses of years’ past. It has been a joy to watch, at times. At other times; however, it’s been incredibly frustrating.
For all the good that this Dolphins offense has done, and for all the fun it’s been, they’ve struggled to finish drives and capitalize. That’s not going to cut it against a team like the Patriots. If you let Tom Brady hang around long enough, eventually he’s going to rip your heart out. Just ask the Falcons.
On the (young) season, the Miami Dolphins offense is 11th in the league in points, averaging 25 points per game. That success has been largely predicated on busting big plays on offense, and the defense setting the team up with great field position. From an efficiency standpoint, the Miami Dolphins offense has been among the worst in the league. They’re tied for 28th in the league with only 49 first downs, and are 27th in the league in 3rd down conversion percentage at 32%.
That’s simply not going to cut it if the Dolphins have any hope of escaping Foxboro with their first win in a decade. It’s not a matter of quarterback Ryan Tannehill not making the throws. He’s completing over 70 percent of his throws on the season. It’s not a matter of penalties; the Dolphins have committed the 4th fewest penalties as a team on the season. Head coach Adam Gase needs to tighten the ship on the critical downs if this team is going to keep the hot streak going.
