Miami Dolphins: 3 Positions to Target in the NFL Draft

Wide Receiver

Another group that has been bitten by the injury bug this season, the Miami Dolphins have a pretty solid group of wide receivers. I’m surprised this group got as much traction in the poll as it did, but I see where fans are coming from. To an extent, I agree.

Kenny Stills is a beast. He’s a tremendous deep-threat weapon, and he’s still only 26 years old. And that’s not even speaking on the locker room influence the man is and the force for good he is within his community. Stills indeed is one of the great guys in the league. Complementing Stills is a whole host of excellent secondary options.

Bringing in Albert Wilson and Danny Amendola, and saying goodbye to Jarvis Landry, was a net gain for the Miami Dolphins. This is a hill I will die on. I loved Landry. I loved the fire he brought to the team. But at the end of the day, he was a handcuff, and the offense opened up in his absence. It’s a shame we didn’t get to see Wilson for long, but I’m excited about his future in South Beach. And my love affair with Amendola has been well documented on Twitter by now.

Then there’s the oft-forgotten Jakeem Grant. Grant is a special teams ace for the Miami Dolphins, and one who I think would shine opposite Stills as another guy who can take the top off the defense if given a chance. Yeah, he’s small. The doesn’t seem to matter, though. The guy makes plays. So why the need to focus on a wide receiver in the draft?

The team has a glaring hole at the proverbial #1 WR spot. DeVante Parker‘s absence from this column says it all. The rest of the guys are solid, but they’re hamstrung by not having a clear-cut, dependable #1. Contrary to what a lot of draft pundits say, I think this draft has a plethora of guys who can fill those shoes. And do it well.
