The Miami Dolphins are going to be filling a lot more holes this offseason than anyone anticipated that they would be. They shockingly fired head coach Brian Flores despite him having a winning record the last two seasons.
There are probably some things that occurred behind closed doors we are not privy to, but a coach having consecutive winning seasons after he joined a rebuilding franchise that was tanking is a bad look.
Now, the Dolphins will be in the market for a new head coach and have some holes to fill on the roster. One of those needs is adding some playmakers to the wide receiver group.
2021 first-round draft pick Jaylen Waddle had an excellent rookie season. He played in 16 games, catching 104 passes for 1,015 yards and six touchdowns. But, beyond him, there isn’t much to count on at wide receiver.
DeVante Parker and Allen Hurns are the only receivers under contract going forward, so they need an influx of talent, especially after the Will Fuller V signing backfired. In the 2022 mock draft at CBS Sports, the Dolphins address their wide receiver issue.
With the projected No. 22 overall pick, the Dolphins select Ohio State wide receiver Chris Olave. This pick comes courtesy of the San Francisco 49ers, who traded up with the Dolphins in 2021 to select quarterback Trey Lance No. 3 overall.
Olave is an excellent route runner that can provide Tua Tagovailoa, should he remain the team’s starting quarterback, with an excellent downfield threat. A former track star, Olave has excellent straight-line speed to take the top off of defenses as well.
Alas, this pick will move a little further down the draft board since the 49ers defeated the Dallas Cowboys in their Wild Card matchup. They will be lucky if Olave lasts into the mid-late 20s, where they very well could be selecting.
Miami is likely regretting the moves that they made last season. Their draft pick was sent to the Philadelphia Eagles and landed at No. 15 overall. Had they held onto that selection, they would have had their pick of the litter at the wide receiver position, as Philadelphia is projected to be the first team to take a wide receiver off the draft board at that spot.
