Miami Dolphins: 3 Players to Watch in Preseason Week 2 vs. Carolina Panthers

Daniel Kilgore

An offensive lineman? That’s right folks, it’s time to give some attention to the “big uglies” up front. The offensive line has been an issue for the Miami Dolphins for years. Once the team has finally accepted and made a real effort to address. Part of that effort was cutting loose long-time center Mike Pouncey. Pouncey, at times, was one of the best centers in the league, but injuries made him unreliable at best. His replacement, Daniel Kilgore, may be less talented, but the best ability is availability, as they say.

Kilgore had a solid debut for the Dolphins last week against the Bucs. He made a couple nice reads and blocks. More importantly, he didn’t make any glaring error. For the average football fan, if you know the name of an offensive lineman, it’s usually not a good thing. Anonymity along the line is good, it means they aren’t making mistakes that shine a light on them. This week I’m training my eyes on Kilgore to see if he can continue his solid play.

Perhaps more important than his individual play, I’m also going to be looking for how Kilgore gels with the rest of the offensive line. Is he making the right calls pre-snap to get the rest of his guys in position? Is he working in tandem with the guards to make sure there isn’t a free rusher in Ryan Tannehill’s lap.
