It has been several years since the Miami Dolphins were awarded a compensatory draft pick. The last instance occurred in 2020 when the team secured fourth- and seventh-round selections for the departure of Ja’Wuan James and Brandon Bolden.
Fast forward five years, and the Dolphins find themselves poised to receive compensatory picks once again.
Based on projections from Over The Cap, the substantial contracts inked by Christian Wilkins and Robert Hunt with the Las Vegas Raiders and Carolina Panthers, respectively, are anticipated to yield third-round picks for the Dolphins in 2025.
While Over The Cap also anticipates a seventh-round selection for Miami, this is less assured.
Currently, the acquisitions of Jordyn Brooks, Aaron Brewer, and Kendall Fuller offset the losses of Andrew Van Ginkel, Raekwon Davis, and Brandon Jones. This leaves DeShon Elliott’s contract as just lucrative enough to potentially earn a seventh-round pick.
However, any additional moves by the Dolphins or further signings by free agents elsewhere could impact the likelihood of receiving this pick.
Regardless, securing two third-round picks represents a significant win for the Miami Dolphins, providing them with substantial draft capital to utilize in the upcoming year.
