Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers suffered a horrendous 30-6 loss to the Houston Texans this past Sunday, dropping them to 2-2 on the season.
The Steelers lost starting quarterback Kenny Pickett to a knee injury during the defeat and allowed 451 total yards to a Texans team that was not exactly known for having a high-octane offense.
Afterward, Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin was understandably perturbed, and when asked if things would change going into Week 5, he offered a blunt response.
“Hell yeah there’s going to be changes,” said Tomlin, according to Brooke Pryor of ESPN.
The Steelers were dominated in nearly every facet in Week 4. They were outgained by 226 total yards, they posted only 12 first downs to Houston’s 24 and they ran only 56 plays compared to 69 for the Texans. Plus, Pittsburgh didn’t log a single sack.
It was a frustrating performance for a Steelers club that had won its previous two games coming in, including an impressive 26-22 victory over the Cleveland Browns in Week 2.
The loss dropped Pittsburgh to 2-2 and out of a first-place tie with the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North.
Tomlin is currently the longest-tenured active coach in the NFL. He has been at the helm for the Steelers since 2007, and over that time, he has gone 165-95-2 with a pair of Super Bowl appearances under his belt, one of which resulted in a championship. He has also led Pittsburgh to seven division titles.
However, much of Tomlin’s success came during the first half of his run.
The Steelers’ last trip to the Super Bowl came 13 years ago, and since 2018, Pittsburgh has collected just one AFC North crown.
Tomlin and the Steelers will look to get back on track when they host the Ravens in a pivotal divisional showdown next Sunday.
