Minnesota Vikings: 5 Training Camp Underdogs to Watch

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Holton Hill

Holton Hill may be the most gifted player mentioned in this article and also the smallest underdog. Hill was projected to go in the middle rounds in the 2018 NFL Draft but due to his off the field issues, he went undrafted. Hill is a big corner at 6-foot-2 and solidly built at 196 pounds. Hill also has good speed running a 4.49 40-yard dash at his size.

In his 25 games with Texas in college, he was productive recording 122 tackles, three interceptions, and eight passes defended. Hill was able to leverage his length, strength, and speed to jam and disrupt very well. I think the Vikings look at Holton Hill and see some of what they see in Xavier Rhodes.

I know you’re reading this and asking why is this guy an underdog if he’s so good? Well, the biggest thing that makes him an underdog is his behavior. Hill was suspended twice for violation of team rules at Texas for repeatedly breaking the rules. There are rumors of the cause of the suspension but no credible info has been released. Sufficed to say, they were grievous enough offenses to drop him from a mid-rounder to undrafted.  It appears Hill’s chances of success rely largely on him being able to control his behavior, which makes him an underdog.
