Minnesota Vikings: 5 Training Camp Underdogs to Watch

Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

Mike Boone

The Vikings are pretty well set for running backs with Dalvin Cook back and Latavius Murray. Running back is possibly the most injury prone position in the league so it’s good to have depth. Boone could possibly fill that role and also add some value as a returner on special teams. Boon comes in from Cincinnati as an undrafted free-agent and like the others on the list is a long shot.

What Boone brings to the table is speed posting a 4.47, 40-yard dash that would have been third best if he ran at the NFL Combine. Besides his 40 time, most of his other measurable at this pro day would have placed him near the top of the charts at the NFL Combine. Boone is also noted to be a shifty runner and has experience returning kicks in college.  In spite of all the athletic measurables, one of the reasons Boone wasn’t drafted is his productivity wasn’t exceptional in college and he is on the small side at 5-foot-10 and 206 pounds.
