Stefon Diggs Will Finally Produce Elite Wide Receiver Numbers
Stefon Diggs had an impressive rookie season after getting drafted in the fifth round out of Maryland. Since then, however, Diggs has not been able to take the next step. Diggs hauled in 52 catches for 720 yards in his rookie season, but did not top the 1,000-yard mark in his next two seasons in the NFL.
In defense of Diggs, he has had three starting quarterbacks in three years so chemistry is always in question. The signing of Cousins provides consistency at the position while the return of Cook can hopefully open up the field for the passing game as teams begin to focus on stopping the electric back out of Florida State.
Despite average production from Diggs, Minnesota brass saw enough in three seasons to ink Diggs to a five-year, $72 million this offseason. With a new contract secured, it is now time for Diggs to earn that money. I fully believe he will.
Although Cousins is known for spreading the ball around, he is also known for taking his shots down the field. With Adam Thielen owning the middle of the field, Diggs will have plenty of opportunities to take the top off the defense. This will translate into production exceeding 1,000 yards for the first time in Digg’s short career.
