More Buzz Growing That Browns Could Sign DeAndre Hopkins

One of the goals for the Cleveland Browns this offseason was to upgrade the weapons around quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson has to improve his performance, as he looked very rusty last season after being away from the field for nearly two calendar years. But, to help him get back on track, improving the weapons is a good course of action.

The first move that the Browns made was acquiring wide receiver Elijah Moore from the New York Jets. The 2021 second-round pick was displeased at points last season with his usage and will now join the Browns team that was in desperate need of help behind Amari Cooper and Donovan Peoples-Jones.

Cleveland also used one of their draft picks on Tennessee wide receiver, Cedric Tillman. The team accomplished its goal of improving its pass catchers, as their new quartet and David Bell is a very solid group.

Alas, the Browns may not be done adding to their wide receiver depth chart. According to Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com, via MoreForYouCleveland on Twitter, a big splash could be coming at the position during minicamp.

“But there’s one big name NFL player who won’t be there at least on the first day of minicamp, although they might land here somewhere in the near future. That’s five-time Pro Bowl WR DeAndre Hopkins.”

DeAndre Hopkins was recently released by the Arizona Cardinals after they failed to find a trade partner for him. While his trade market was reportedly robust, it may have been colder than people thought as his free agent market hasn’t been very hot either.

Hopkins shared the group of quarterbacks that he would like to team up with, giving an idea of where his head is in free agents. Watson and the Browns weren’t among that group, but there would probably be some interest in reuniting with his starting quarterback from his time with the Houston Texans.

Watson and Hopkins were a dynamic duo for 1.5 seasons together, as Hopkins made the All-Pro First Team and Pro Bowl roster in both years. He also finished third in the Offensive Player of the Year award voting in 2018.

Hopkins would be a huge upgrade for the Browns’ passing game, giving them one of the best duos in the NFL by pairing him with Cooper. Having those two with Peoples-Jones, Moore, Tillman and Bell would give Watson arguably the deepest group of wide receivers in the league.
