5. Ja’Marr Chase: WR, LSU
Ja’Marr Chase is the best receiving prospect in the nation. As a sophomore, he was awarded the Biletnikoff Award after posting a monstrous season. He finished with 84 catches for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns. Chase lit up Clemson in the National Championship Game with nine catches for 220 yards and two scores.
Chase is one of the favorites to win the Biletnikoff once again and he could find himself in the top five of the 2021 NFL Draft. However, the odds are not in his favor to win the Heisman. Only two receivers have ever won the award at the position. Tim Brown of Notre Dame became the first to do it in 1987 and Desmond Howard out of Michigan did it once again in 1991.
LSU has lost many weapons. Burrow is now in Cincinnati, Justin Jefferson was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings, and Thaddeus Moss was signed by the Washington Redskins. Chase will be the focal point of the Tigers’ offense and defensive coordinators will know that coming in. He will put up another huge season just off of skill alone, but it might not be enough to take home the Heisman.
Chase can be considered a dark-horse candidate because wide receivers rarely win the award, which means that you can get greats odds on him. Do not be surprised if during the season some analysts decide to make a bold prediction and throw Chase’s name into the mix.
