2. D’Eriq King: QB, Miami
Only two Miami players have ever won the Heisman and they were both quarterbacks. Vinny Testaverde became the first in 1986 and Gino Torretta followed in 1992. King will look to become the third after transferring to Miami.
King spent the first three years of his career at Houston. He quickly turned into one of the most exciting players in the nation because of his speed and athleticism. In 2018, King threw for 36 touchdowns and just six interceptions. He added 14 rushing touchdowns to make an even 50 total.
In 2019, King played in four games for Houston. The team went 1-3, but King continued to put up big numbers. He decided to sit out the rest of the season and take advantage of the NCAA’s redshirt rule. This states that a player could receive a redshirt if they play in four games or less. After missing most of the 2019 season, King decided to transfer to the ACC in hopes of gaining more attention.
This transfer could be one of the most impactful of the season. King is a big game player and he will have a chance to show that in a power five conference.
