4. Travis Etienne, Clemson
Etienne surprised fans and scouts when he announced his intention to return to Clemson for his senior season. After three years, Etienne is already the school’s all-time leader in rushing yards (4,038) and rushing touchdowns (56).
If Etienne entered the 2020 NFL Draft, he would’ve gone in the first two rounds along with Cam Akers, J.K. Dobbins, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, D’Andre Swift, and Jonathan Taylor. Instead, Etienne returns to Clemson for another shot at a National Championship.
After a quiet freshman season, Etienne broke onto the collegiate stage in 2018. That year, he led the ACC with 1,658 rushing yards and the NCAA with 24 rushing touchdowns. Etienne won the ACC Offensive Player of the Year and ACC Player of the Year awards.
Last season, Etienne won both of those awards again, joining Lamar Jackson as the only player to win both awards twice. However, after finishing seventh in the Heisman race in 2018, Etienne slipped to ninth in 2019.
With recent losses in Clemson’s receiving corps, Etienne could see even more action than he’s used to in 2020. He only needs 565 more rushing yards to become the ACC’s all-time leader.
