2. Justin Fields, Ohio State
If analysts and scouts already pegged Trevor Lawrence as the top quarterback prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft, then Fields is comfortably in second place. In his first year as a full-time starter, Fields led the Buckeyes to a 13-1 record and the College Football Playoff semifinals.
Last season, Fields completed 67.2% of his pass attempts while throwing for 3,273 yards, 41 touchdowns, and three interceptions. He led the Big Ten in passing yards, passing touchdowns, and passer efficiency rating (181.4). In the NCAA as a whole, Fields ranked third in passing touchdowns and efficiency rating.
Fields also flashed some athleticism last season, rushing for 484 yards and ten touchdowns. He’ll have to make adjustments this season, considering J.K. Dobbins and K.J. Hill, who finished first and fourth on the team in yards from scrimmage, both left for the NFL.
Fields already caught the eyes of several Heisman voters last year. The former Georgia transfer finished third in the voting in 2019, trailing only Joe Burrow and Jalen Hurts. With all of the talented pieces around him, Fields could easily experience another dominant season in 2020 and potentially lead the Buckeyes to a National Championship.
