2. Justin Fields, Ohio State
Everyone already knows who the top two quarterbacks in the country are. Trevor Lawrence staked his claim to fame two years ago, but Fields made a run at the quarterback crown last year. In his first season as a starter, Fields finished third in the Heisman race.
Fields began his collegiate career at Georgia, but he grew impatient playing behind three-year starter Jake Fromm. So, Fields transferred to Ohio State for the 2019 season, replacing Dwayne Haskins as the program’s starter. A year after Haskins finished third in the Heisman voting with an incredible performance, Fields authored an impressive display of his own.
The 21-year-old quarterback completed 67.2% of his pass attempts for 3,273 yards, 41 touchdowns, and three interceptions. He also scrambled for 484 yards and ten touchdowns. Fields led the Big Ten conference in passing yards, passing touchdowns, and passer efficiency rating.
In a recent Bleacher Report 2021 NFL mock draft, Jake Rill had Fields going second overall behind Lawrence. Everyone views Fields as the second guy in a two-man elite tier. However, Fields plans on proving he’s the best quarterback in college football this season.
