3. Sam Ehlinger, Texas
Ehlinger might not possess as polished a pro-style as some players ranked lower on this list, but please remember these rankings are based on performance at the college football level alone. Projections to the NFL do not matter.
If Ehlinger puts everything together in a do-it-all year for Texas, he could find himself in the Heisman Trophy conversation. The Texas quarterback split time with Shane Buechele as a freshman before fully taking over as the team’s leader in 2018.
Over the past two seasons, Ehlinger amassed 6,955 passing yards, 57 passing touchdowns, and only 15 interceptions. He also punched in 23 touchdowns on the ground.
Entering his senior season, Ehlinger faces pressure to restore Texas to its winning ways. The Longhorns have winning records during each of Ehlinger’s seasons with the team, but Texas only finished 25th in the final AP Poll last year. In 2018, Texas finished ninth in the final poll.
