Earlier this week, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft revealed an interesting tidbit of news. He said that rapper Meek Mill had texted him and told him that quarterback Lamar Jackson wanted to play in New England. Jackson’s future is currently up in the air as the Baltimore Ravens placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on him.

Jackson also revealed this week that he requested a trade from the Ravens before the tag was placed on him. It would seem a parting of ways will eventually occur as the former MVP sounds like he is ready to move on.

There should be plenty of teams lining up to acquire Jackson given his dynamic skill set and production in the NFL. Alas, his market has been ice cold. While he may want to play with the Patriots, the feeling doesn’t seem mutual.

As shared by MLFootball on Twitter, the Patriots are not expected to pursue Jackson. Kraft had said that the decision would ultimately come down to head coach Bill Belichick, who has seemingly opted against bringing in the former MVP.

2022 was a struggle for quarterback Mac Jones, who was outplayed at times by Bailey Zappe. Jones was a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and played well as a rookie, but regressed in Year 2.

It is somewhat surprising that the Patriots wouldn’t have any interest in Jackson, who would present a major upgrade from Jones and Zappe. Alas, a lot would go into acquiring a player of his caliber and it may not be something that Belichick and company want to do.

Not only would draft compensation have to be sent to the Ravens, but Jackson is seeking a massive contract as well. On the field, the entire game plan offensively would have to change with Jackson in the fold to accommodate his unique skill set.

While Jackson is good enough that making those kinds of changes would be worthwhile, it sounds as if the Patriots are going to stay the course, for now. This could be something they regret down the line, especially if Jones cannot regain the form he showed as a rookie.
