New England Patriots: 3 Players to Watch in Preseason Week 2 vs. Eagles

WR Cordarrelle Patterson ― No. 84

When the Patriots acquired Cordarrelle Patterson in a trade with Oakland earlier this offseason, there was much uncertainty regarding what his role would be. There was belief Patterson could contribute on offense for New England, however, his specialty is returning kicks on special teams.

Patterson has done well in training camp, so far, and has flashed the potential to take on a larger role than expected on offense. He’s been noted by reporters for making a number of impressive catches, including a few one-handed grabs, and continued to turn heads against Washington.

New England has 11 wide receivers on its roster who are eligible to play Week 1, however, question marks remain regarding who will make the team. Patterson wasn’t a surefire lock to make the Patriots roster heading into camp, although, based on how he’s played so far, it would be a major surprise if he did not.

He’s listed as a second string wide receiver on the Patriots’ online depth chart ahead of Kenny Britt and Eric Decker, but he’s shown the potential to earn a starting role come Week 1.
