Phillip Dorsett, Wide Receiver
Last year, before the season started the Patriots traded for the Indianapolis Colts former first-round pick Phillip Dorsett. He was traded for Jacoby Brissett and a third-round pick. This shows the Patriots had high hopes for Dorsett to become a reliable weapon on their offense. Dorsett never saw much of the field last year though starting in just two games. He had just 12 receptions last season, look for that to increase in 2018.
This year will likely be different as Julian Edelman is suspended the first few games and Danny Amendola took his talents to South Beach (didn’t quite get the reception LeBron did but it’s whatever). Plus, they traded Brandin Cooks to the Los Angeles Rams for a first round pick. Dorsett should be more comfortable in the Patriots offense now, having a whole offseason to get adjusted.
Dorsett is a short, speedy receiver who can take the top off of a defense. New England also likes using guys like Dorsett in the slot to create mismatches against nickel cornerbacks, safeties, or linebackers. To begin the season, Dorsett will probably be moved around the field to allow him to be more dangerous in the passing game. Dorsett will look to earn the trust of Brady and carve himself a more prominent role in his sophomore season with the Patriots.
