Speculation swirls around whether the New England Patriots will entertain trading the third overall pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL draft.
ESPN analyst Mike Reiss entertains the idea, albeit with a caveat: any potential deal would necessitate a significant return for the Patriots.
When Reiss mentions a “haul,” he envisions a package comprising multiple draft picks along with an established player. This player would ideally possess the ability to contribute immediately on the offensive side of the ball.
“Hi Geoff. Something I mentioned yesterday in discussion on this topic — my opinion is that it would take an established player (e.g. Justin Jefferson) plus multiple first-round picks.”
Undoubtedly, the Patriots would demand a substantial price for such a premier draft selection.
For New England, such a trade could provide the opportunity to fortify their roster for years to come with multiple draft selections. Simultaneously, acquiring a key contributor could offer the immediate boost needed to revitalize the franchise.
However, any team willing to meet the Patriots’ steep demands would need to consider the long-term implications of such a deal.
At this point in time, it appears that the New England Patriots will look to add their long-term franchise quarterback with the No. 3 pick. In order to pass up on that option, they would need to be blown away with an offer.
