For the first time since 1999, the New England Patriots are getting set to enter training camp without Bill Belichick.

The Patriots and Belichick parted ways earlier this offseason, ending a 24-year run.

While many feel that a change was needed, especially in the modern NFL, at least one Pats player is already feeling nostalgic for Belichick.

Defensive end Keion White admitted that he already misses Belichick, and his reasoning was hilarious.

“We don’t got Bill cussing us out every play anymore,” White said, via Nick O’Malley of Mass Live.

White went on to say that he really appreciated Belichick’s coaching style, but made sure to compliment new head coach Jerod Mayo, as well.

“I like Bill. He’s my type of coach, like a hard a–. I like that,” White said. “I respond well to things like that. Mayo’s done a pretty good job too. It’s all different. Mayo’s doing a really good job of staying true to himself, not trying to fill somebody else’s shoes, but create his own path, and I really respect that.”

Mayo certainly isn’t new to White, as he had previously been serving as New England’s linebackers coach before being elevated to the role of head coach following Belichick’s departure.

“For me, I can respond to any coaching style as long as you’re genuine,” White said. “So if you’re a friendly coach, and you try to be a hard a–, I’m gonna see through that and challenge the (expletive). And if you’re a hard-a– coach and trying to be super friendly because you’re trying to cater to certain players, I’m gonna see through that. I’d much rather you just be yourself and be who you are – and that’s what Mayo’s doing and I respect that.”

It’s certainly going to be different seeing the Pats without Belichick patrolling the sidelines next season.

During his illustrious run in Foxborough, Belichick led the Patriots to six Super Bowl championships, nine Super Bowl appearances and 17 AFC East division titles.

Mayo certainly has a lot to live up to.

Meanwhile, White is coming off of a rookie campaign in which he played 16 games and registered 26 tackles and a sack.

New England is certainly expecting bigger things from White in 2024.
