Patriots Linked As Possible Trade Suitor For Broncos’ Russell Wilson

The struggle continued for New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones in Week 6, as he went 24-for-33 with just 200 yards and an interception in a 21-17 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday afrernoon.

It marked the third straight poor performance from Jones, who was benched in each of the preceding two games in blowout losses.

The Patriots will almost surely explore other options under center between now and the start of 2024, and Enzo Flojo of ClutchPoints feels that Denver Broncos signal-caller Russell Wilson is a possibility.

The Broncos acquired Wilson in a blockbuster trade with the Seattle Seahawks in March 2022, but things have not exactly worked out for Wilson in the Mile High City, as Denver has gone just 6-17 since last season.

This has stirred speculation that the Broncos could trade Wilson, with some even wondering if Denver could move him before the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.

While moving Wilson and his massive contract seems highly unlikely over the next couple of weeks, you have to think New England would be an interested party if the Broncos do decide to go that route.

It seems pretty clear that Jones’ time in Foxborough is running short, as the Pats even shopped him around back in the spring. Jones has regressed since his rookie campaign in 2021, and with the Patriots sitting at 1-5, it’s almost certainly time for a change.

Although Russell Wilson did not play well in Denver’s most recent loss, going 13-for-22 with just 95 yards, a touchdown and a couple of interceptions in a Week 6 defeat against the Kansas City Chiefs, he has actually done a solid job on the season as a whole, throwing 12 touchdowns and four picks while registering a passer rating of 99.

Clearly, the 34-year-old still has something left in the tank, and a change of scenery would probably do him a whole lot of good at this point.
