Patriots Predicted To Land Kirk Cousins In Free Agency

Could the New England Patriots turn to Kirk Cousins to fill their void at quarterback?

The Patriots are kind of in a tough spot right now. They own the No. 3 overall pick, which means they won’t be able to take USC’s Caleb Williams or North Carolina’s Drake Maye in the NFL Draft. Of course, they could always trade up, but that would be assuming that the Chicago Bears or Washington Commanders would be open to it.

New England could always trade down a couple of slots and draft LSU’s Jayden Daniels, but Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports thinks the Pats may go in a different direction.

Benjamin predicts that the Patriots will sign Cousins in free agency, as New England has ample cap space going into the offseason.

Of course, whether or not Cousins would actually want to join the Pats is anyone’s guess.

Cousins will be 36 years old at the start of next season and has said that he wants to compete for a Super Bowl, and the Patriots certainly would not offer that to him at this juncture.

Sure, anything is possible, but New England went just 4-13 this past season and has a lot of work to do in order to ascend back to contender status.

So, even if the Pats do express interest in Cousins, the intrigue has to be mutual, and it seems somewhat hard to believe that Cousins would head to Foxborough at this stage.

Cousins has spent the last six years of his career with the Minnesota Vikings and saw his 2023 campaign cut short after eight games due to a torn Achilles.

Before going down with the injury, Cousins was brilliant, having thrown for 2,331 yards, 18 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 69.5 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 103.8.

The Michigan State product was originally selected by the Washington Redskins back in 2012 and spent his first six years with the Redskins before signing with the Vikings in 2018.

Kirk Cousins has earned four Pro Bowl selections.
