Round 4- 133rd overall
I wanted to go with Clemson’s Hunter Renfrow here. Even before the 2019 NFL Draft, the match seemed perfect. While Renfrow isn’t a superstar receiver, he brings a lot of potential to the table. The Patriots know how to maximize the returns on players like Renfrow. However, the team needs defensive support more than another slot receiver.
Originally, New England took Jarrett Stidham here. However, since Stidham isn’t guaranteed playing time in 2020, the Patriots take a different route in the re-draft. Greenlaw started 11 games for the NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers last season. He amassed 92 tackles on 725 defensive snaps.
With Jamie Collins and Kyle Van Noy leaving in free agency, the Patriots could use Greenlaw’s talent.
New Pick: Dre Greenlaw, LB Arkansas
Round 5- 159th overall
After passing on Renfrow, New England grabs another productive receiver. If the Patriots adequately addressed the wide receiver position during the 2019 NFL Draft, they would’ve never traded for Mohamed Sanu. The Patriots sent a second-round pick to Atlanta for Sanu during the middle of the season. Unfortunately, the veteran looked worn out when he arrived.
Meanwhile, Slayton looked fresh in New York. He and Daniel Jones clicked, and the duo connected 48 times for 740 yards and eight touchdowns. The Patriots don’t need a superstar receiver at this spot, but the team needs youthful pass-catchers. Slayton fits the bill.
New Pick: Darius Slayton, WR Auburn
