New Odds Show Chance The Jets Will Trade For WR DK Metcalf

DK Metcalf, Jets

The New York Jets have done a great job this offseason. Joe Douglas and his staff have brought in a few upgrades at positions of need without breaking the bank, retaining cap flexibility going forward. Too often we see teams throw big contracts at players, putting themselves in a bad position but that is not happening with the Jets.

While they will be hard-pressed to compete in a very strong AFC East in 2022, they are certainly on the right path. The offensive line is improved and the secondary has seen some additions as well. Next on the list is getting Zach Wilson some new weapons to throw the ball to.

New York re-signed Braxton Berrios to join Corey Davis and Elijah Moore. But, to aid Wilson in his development, adding a true No. 1 wide receiver would help immensely. The team was mentioned as a possible landing spot for Tyreek Hill, but after seeing the contract he received from the Miami Dolphins and the draft capital they surrendered, the Jets are better off.

Some mock drafts are floating around that have the Jets selecting a wide receiver in the 2022 NFL Draft. The draft is a fickle process and results are not guaranteed. So, what if the Jets dipped into the trade market for an established player, such as Seattle Seahawks wide receiver, D.K. Metcalf.

There have been some rumors swirling that Metcalf could be made available with the Seahawks contemplating a rebuild. Following the trade of Russell Wilson and the release of Bobby Wager, a rebuild seems to be on the docket. If that is the case, New York needs to get involved in the bidding for Metcalf.

As things stand right now, the Jets are currently third according to Bookies.com when it comes to the odds of where Metcalf is playing in Week 1. New York’s odds are set at +550.

Metcalf’s current team, the Seahawks, are the odds on favorites at -125. Second on that list is the Green Bay Packers, who are just ahead of the Jets at +500. Rounding out the list are the Kansas City Chiefs at +750, the Chicago Bears at +900, Indianapolis Colts at +950 and The Field at +5000.

The Packers and Chiefs both just traded away wide receivers they couldn’t afford. One darkhorse team that would fit under The Field is the Philadelphia Eagles who have a bunch of draft capital and could use another weapon to pair with DeVonta Smith.

Out of all of those teams mentioned, the Jets are likely best positioned from a draft capital and salary-cap space. Metcalf is entering the final season of his rookie contract, so he will be looking to cash in on a lucrative deal in 2023. New York can afford that given how well they have handled the salary cap in recent years.
