The Buffalo Bills came into the 2022 offseason with one of the best rosters in the NFL. There were no glaring holes, just a few spots that could use a little depth. Despite that, the team dove headfirst into free agency, signing vaunted EDGE defender Von Miller.
Miller was one of the best players available in free agency this offseason and will bring a bonafide pass rusher to the defense. He is also excellent against the run, fortifying what was already a strong unit.
Another position the team could use some depth is at wide receiver. Buffalo has a star in Stefon Diggs as their No. 1 and Gabriel Davis, who broke out in the postseason, moving up as their No. 2 receiver.
The team did say goodbye to veterans Emmanuel Sanders and Cole Beasley this offseason, so they lose some depth. Isaiah McKenzie was retained and Jamison Crowder was added in free agency. But, could they still be in the market for another player at the position?
Over at Bookies.com, they certainly believe so. Buffalo is near the top of the odds list when it comes to where veteran Julio Jones will be playing in Week 1. Buffalo’s odds are currently set at +500, which is tied with the New England Patriots and behind only the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Rounding out the list behind the Bills are the Green Bay Packers at +650, Kansas City Chiefs at +700, Chicago Bears at +850, Indianapolis Colts at +900 and Atlanta Falcons at +1400. The Field is listed with odds of +500, tied with the Bills and Patriots.
Now 33-years old, Jones isn’t the same dominant player that he was with the Falcons when he made the Pro Bowl in seven of his first nine seasons in the NFL. That is what makes a team such as the Bills a good landing spot for him because he won’t be relied upon to be that star player.
Julio Jones would be a complementary player, which is a role he could be best suited for given where he is in his career. It may help him remain healthier as well, as his snaps can be scaled back with other players capable of handling more playing time.
The Bills are also contenders for the Super Bowl this season. At this stage in his career, the chance to win may trump money and playing time. If that is the case, the Bills provide an appealing situation for the veteran pass-catcher to take advantage of.
