Marcus Williams, Safety
The Saints had two takeaways against the Bengals, including Marcus Williams’ interception in the second quarter. New Orleans’ second-year safety returned the pick 78 yards, and on the next play Drew Brees hooked up with wide receiver Michael Thomas for a 17-yard TD pass with two seconds remaining in the opening half.
In addition to his long interception return, Williams also had four tackles (three solo) and a pass defensed. His pick, as well as the one by cornerback Eli Apple in the fourth quarter, both led to points for the Saints.
New Orleans also had four sacks and five tackles for loss to go with seven total quarterback hits. Thus, it was a total team effort on defense that held the Bengals to just 14 points.
Cincinnati entered Week 10 averaging 27.6 points per game, one of the top marks in the NFL. But Williams and Co. were up to the task on Sunday, holding the Bengals under 21 points for just the second time this season.
