Tre’Quan Smith

New Orleans Saints rookie wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith will forever be the answer to a trivia question. Even if he never accomplishes anything else in his career, he’ll forever be known as the guy who caught the ball that gave Drew Brees the all-time passing record. A pretty nice accomplishment for a rookie. Especially one who came into the game with one career catch to his name for all of 18 yards.

Smith nearly equaled his career receiving yards on his first catch of the night, catching a 14-yard pass to get his quarterback that much closer to a historic night. Then, his shining moment (so far).

With less than 3 minutes to go before the half, the youngster from Central Florida streaked down the sidelines, and Brees found him like he always does. With the shake of a defensive back, Smith was off to the races and his first career touchdown reception. A reception that put his quarterback atop league history. Pretty great, but Smith wasn’t done just yet.

Smith would add one more catch to his night, a 35-yarder that also went for a score. He finished the night with three catches on three targets and two touchdowns. It seems the Saints have found out what they have in Smith. Catching a record-setting pass is great, but I have a feeling it won’t be the last we hear of Smith this year, or in the future.
