The New Orleans Saints have gotten off to a 2-1 start this season and look primed to be competitive in what is a very weak NFC South division.
Offensively, the Saints have been a bit below average, ranking 20th in the NFL under quarterback Derek Carr, who is in his first year in a new system. The passing offense has been mediocre, ranking 15th.
Basically, New Orleans could certainly use a boost on the offensive side of the ball between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.
Could the club potentially pursue Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Hunter Renfrow? Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox seems to think so.
Carr is familiar with Renfrow from their time together with the Raiders, and while Carr is currently dealing with an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder, he isn’t expected to miss too much time.
The Saints actually have a solid receiving corps that features Michael Thomas, Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, but they could always use a sure-handed receiver like Renfrow.
Since Carr’s departure from Las Vegas, Renfrow has been a forgotten man in the Raiders’ offense, logging just three catches thus far this season.
The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Clemson, was originally selected by the Raiders in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Renfrow was productive right off the bat, catching 49 passes for 605 yards and four touchdowns during his rookie campaign. The following year, he posted similar numbers, snaring 56 balls for 656 yards and a couple of scores.
The Myrtle Beach, S.C. native then broke out in 2021, hauling in 103 receptions for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.
Injuries limited Renfrow to just 10 games last season, where he registered 36 grabs for 330 yards and a pair of scores.
Renfrow may not be the same receiver he was back in 2021, but he could still provide a boost to the Saints’ aerial attack.
