The Indianapolis Colts are sitting pretty at 2-1 on the season after picking up an impressive victory on the road against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3. What made that win even better was that it came with backup quarterback Gardner Minshew stepping into the lineup for Anthony Richardson.

Richardson missed that game because he was in the league’s concussion protocol. He self-reported symptoms in Week 2 against the Houston Texans after his head hit the turf hard on his second touchdown run of the game.

The rookie quarterback is trending in the right direction and should be back in the lineup this week when Indianapolis hosts the Los Angeles Rams. From the sounds of it, this offense is going to get another jolt very soon.

Running back Jonathan Taylor is eligible to return to the lineup in Week 5, as he had to miss the first four games because he was on the PUP List coming out of training camp. He is expected to not only be in the lineup for the Colts but also stick with the franchise for the long term.

According to a former NFL executive who spoke to NFL Analysis Network, Taylor isn’t going anywhere. The executive revealed that Indianapolis had no plans to actually trade their star running back and had wanted to keep him the whole time.

“The Colts have never wanted to trade Jonathan Taylor. In fact, they are still planning to sign him long-term. All they want to do is make sure he’s healthy and capable of being the version of Taylor from two years ago in Shane Steichen’s offense. He’ll remain in Indianapolis.”

That does make some sense given the outlandish trade requests the Colts were making. They reportedly asked the Miami Dolphins for wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and a draft pick in exchange for Taylor. Their asking price for the Green Bay Packers was wide receiver Christian Watson and a draft pick.

Both of those offers were turned down, as they were even steeper than the first-round pick Indianapolis was originally seeking. Alas, if what the former executive said is true, it was all part of the Colts’ game plan as they never wanted to trade Taylor.
