New Update Shows Packers’ Chances Of Making Playoffs

The Green Bay Packers may have had the final nail delivered into their coffin for the 2022 season in Week 12. Green Bay went on the road to face off with the 9-1 Philadelphia Eagles and while they gave them all that they could handle, the Packers still ended up falling short.

The Eagles won the game 40-33 in a game in which both teams came out firing offensively. Neither defense had any answers as they combined for 27 points in the first quarter and nine touchdowns in the game.

The Packers have now lost seven out of their last eight games as they continue plummeting in the standings. Very few tiebreakers are going in their favor as they went 1-3 against the NFC East and currently have only a 1-2 record against their divisional opponents.

The deck is certainly stacked against the Packers and the analytics are painting a very bleak picture for them to make a late-season run. According to Rob Demovsky, an ESPN NFL Nation reporter for the Packers, there is only a two percent chance that the Packers make the playoffs this season.

A two percent chance is likely too high given the team’s recent form. They have to win the last five games of the season to have any chance of making the playoffs, which would be a tall task even if things were going well.

In addition to that, the health of Aaron Rodgers seems to be worsening every week. He admitted last week that he is dealing with a broken thumb on his throwing hand. While he will never use it as an excuse, it is certainly impacting his performance and ability to put the ball where he wants it to be.

In addition to the thumb, Rodgers is now dealing with an oblique injury. He suffered it against the Eagles and could be seen wincing in pain. He was eventually pulled from the game as Jordan Love played the entire fourth quarter.

Love did lead the Packers on two scoring drives, which was an encouraging development as he could be thrust into the starting role next week if the injury to Rodgers is bad enough to hold him out. Green Bay will be heading on the road to face the Chicago Bears next week, who are also dealing with injury concerns to their quarterback, Justin Fields.
