Janoris Jenkins, Cornerback
New York’s defense came up with two interceptions in the second half of Sunday’s game, the first by cornerback Curtis Riley in the third quarter. However, it was the pick by fellow cornerback Janoris Jenkins as the Panthers were driving in the fourth quarter that led to a TD and the ensuing 2-point conversion. At that point, the Giants trailed just 27-24 with 8:08 remaining.
Jenkins also finished with four tackles (three solo) and two passes defended against the Panthers. And his interception was one of just four for the Giants so far this season.
The Giants desperately need to start recording more turnovers. They entered Week 5 in a seven-way tie for 25th in takeaways, as they also have just one fumble recovery thus far.
Jenkins is definitely a guy who can take the ball away, especially if New York’s front seven can get pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Pressure on Carolina quarterback Cam Newton led to at least one of the Giants’ picks on Sunday, and could result in more takeaways in the future.
