New York Giants: 3 Keys to Victory in Week 5 vs. Panthers

USA TODAY Sports

Generate a Pass Rush

I’ve been saying this for weeks now, but the Giants will need to generate pressure to win this week. Against mobile quarterbacks, like Newton, this is especially true.

The one mistake any team can do, is allow the opposing QB to have plenty of time to make decisions through the air. Unfortunately for the Giants, Newton can create with his legs, even when things break down.

The Giants are currently tied last in the NFL, with just five sacks on the season. The team they are tied with, traded away their best pass rusher Khalil Mack (hint: it’s the Oakland Raiders).

If only the Giants had someone like Mack that could come in and wreak havoc on a game. Sadly, the Giants do not possess someone who is capable of doing that.

The Giants have been missing Olivier Vernon the first few weeks, leaving room for the Giants to get better in sacking the QB. Just recently, he was officially made inactive for Sunday’s game. This is unfortunate news for a team in dire need of a pass rush.

To get a win this week, it would help if the defense could make things difficult on Newton and the Panthers aerial attack, by creating unwanted pressure.
