New York Giants: 3 Players to Watch in Preseason Week 2 vs. Lions

USA TODAY Sports

Davis Webb, Quarterback

The Giants are set at QB with Eli starting, but every team needs a reliable backup QB. Davis Webb was drafted in the third round by the Giants last season from California. A lot of people believed the Giants took him as the successor for Eli down the road. That remains to be seen, especially since he hasn’t had much playing time to show much of anything. In last week’s preseason game, Webb looked less than impressive in his debut this season. He finished with 70 yards passing, completing just nine of 22 attempts.

As a Giants fan, I wouldn’t get overly worried about this type of performance in the first week of preseason. It’s hard to really judge the guy knowing he wasn’t given many reps with the starters. The same thing can be said the other way though: he wasn’t playing against many starters either. Now, if this level of play is what Webb shows all throughout the preseason, I’d start to get a bit uneasy. Look for Webb to try to improve on his lackluster performance last week against the Lions this week.
