Odell Beckam Jr., Wide Receiver
The one player everyone wants to know if he’s playing or not is Odell Beckham Jr. As of now it’s uncertain whether or not Beckham will get much run if any this week. Head coach Pat Shurmur kept his answer very short on whether or not the All-Pro WR will suit up. “We’ll see,” Shurmur said when asked if Beckham will play.
If Beckham does indeed find himself starting this football game, it will be the first time he steps foot on the field since he was injured in Week 5 of last season. Beckham fractured his ankle in last season’s game against the now, Los Angeles Chargers. That’s not an easy injury to return from, especially as a wide receiver. I definitely wouldn’t recommend watching the video of his injury if you have a weak stomach.
It will be huge for the Giants if Beckham can continue where he left off before suffering his season-ending injury. Beckham is arguably the most electrifying player to watch in the NFL and the Giants will need him to be the elite WR that he is, if they want to reach the postseason. If the Giants offense is going to be successful, Beckham needs to play a key role.
The Giants’ Pro Bowl wide receiver could use some reps in their new offensive system under the new coaching staff. If I were a fan in New York I’d also understand if the Giants were cautious with their star wide-out coming off a serious injury. Either way, it seems we are close to seeing the return of Beckham’s patented one-handed catches in a real game, which is good news to all football fans. This will be a pleasant sight for many Giants fans, and I know there will be lots of cheers when he steps foot on the field again. Look for Beckham to make his hopeful return this week against the Jets.
