New York Giants Fans Will Love This Prediction From NFL Insider

The New York Giants went just 6-11 last season, and they are not viewed as playoff contenders heading into 2024. However, Vic Tafur of The Athletic thinks they may be better than everyone is assuming.

The Giants’ over-under win total has been set at 6.5, and Tafur thinks they are a good pick for the over.

“The Giants also probably got a chuckle when some people thought Drew Lock was brought in to take Daniel Jones’ job. Jones is not that bad, people,” Tafur wrote. “He will be able to get the ball to Malik Nabers. And Brian Daboll didn’t suddenly forget how to coach last season when the Giants disappointed many and fell from 9-7-1 to 6-11.”

Tafur makes some good points.

The Giants Could Rebound In 2024

Just two seasons ago, New York looked like an up and coming team after sneaking into the playoffs as a Wild Card and actually upsetting the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card Round.

Then, this past year, the Giants came crashing back down to earth, as Jones’ production took a major dip and he ended up tearing his ACL after six games.

In Jones’ defense, he has never had a legitimate No. 1 receiver since entering the NFL in 2019. His best wide out throughout that time has probably been Darius Slayton, who has never even totaled 800 receiving yards in a single campaign.

Now, he appears to have finally been provided with a top talent in Nabers, who the Giants took in the first round of the NFL Draft in April. Plus, New York made some nice additions in free agency, especially in the form of star edge rusher Brian Burns.

The Giants are far from Super Bowl contenders. A lot of work still needs to be done here. But there is no question that New York’s roster looks considerably better than it did in 2023, and going the over on 6.5 wins does seem like a good bet to take.

One thing that is puzzling is that many have higher expectations for the Washington Commanders—who went 4-13 and were swept by Big Blue this past season—than the Giants. I get that the Commanders drafted Jayden Daniels, but that team still has holes all over the roster. Probably more than New York.

The Giants are still the third-best team in the NFC East behind the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles, but that does not mean they can’t contend for a Wild Card spot.
