The New York Giants officially became sellers as they made the right decision to trade Leonard Williams.

After a brutal loss to the New York Jets in Week 8, the Giants made the right decision to become sellers before the trade deadline, and traded Williams to the Seattle Seahawks.

After making the playoffs last season, the 2023 season has been nothing short of a massive failure for the Giants. To start the season, the Giants were embarrassed by the Dallas Cowboys, and they never seemed to bounce back from that loss.

Through eight weeks, the Giants sit at 2-6 and with the trade deadline almost here, they have decided to become sellers. In what could be the first of multiple moves, the Giants traded Leonard Williams to the Seahawks for a second-round and fifth-round pick.

With Williams being in the last year of his contract, the Giants did pretty well on this deal, as they are reportedly picking up Williams’ salary for the rest of the season. Getting the second-round pick could result in a potential starting caliber player right off the bat for the Giants next season, which will be important.

The Giants feel like a team that is lacking talent and getting some draft capital will help them improve the team moving forward. Williams was a big part of the Giants’ defensive success last season, as he has performed well for the team since coming over for the Jets. As an inside defensive lineman, Williams has been good at both stopping the run and rushing the passer.

For the Seahawks, getting Williams will be a big upgrade for their defensive line. With them being in the same division as the San Francisco 49ers, they knew they needed to make some upgrades on the defensive side of the ball to try and compete with San Fran.

For the Giants, this very well might not be the last move they make. All eyes will be on Saquon Barkley’s status with the team, as he could be a game-changer for if he is traded.

While it is unfortunate that the Giants have had a disappointing season, they are doing the right thing by selling assets to get draft capital, as the team might move into a bit of a rebuilding or retooling phase. With the trade deadline on October 31st, we will have to wait and see if Williams is just the first of many Giants to be traded.
