New York Giants Rookie Malik Nabers Impressing In Minicamp

Malik Nabers, New York Giants

New York Giants‘ first-round pick Malik Nabers is already making a good impression with the team as mandatory minicamp continued through June.

The sixth overall pick out of LSU showed coaches why he could be one of, if not the best wide receiver in the 2024 class with impressive catches to get his NFL career started.

According to Jordan Ranaan of ESPN, Nabers spent the spring practicing with the first team, showing he can make an immediate impact on the receiving corps. Quarterback Daniel Jones had high praise for No. 9 as well.

“I mean, he can do everything,” Jones said. “There is not much that he can’t do from a route-running standpoint. He’s dynamic with the ball in his hands and strong, fast, explosive, catches the ball well. Yeah, he does a lot well.”

It’s been a light minicamp and spring, with training camp showcasing true talent. However, it has to be a good sign that Nabers is doing all the right things for New York. The 20-year-old racked up 1,569 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns in his final season with the Tigers.

Nabers will be competing in a receiver room consisting of Darius Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson, Jalin Hyatt, and newly-signed Allen Robinson II. The rookie is already looking to be WR1, as New York finished in the bottom five in team receiving yards, yards per reception, and receiving touchdowns.

The wide receiver position has been a major area of weakness for the Giants ever since they traded Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns in March 2018.

New York has tried to find answers, but it has come up short each time. Until now, perhaps.

If Nabers is able to realize his potential, he could very well be the first legitimate No. 1 receiver Big Blue has had since Beckham six years ago. That would be great news for Jones.

The Giants went a disappointing 6-11 last season, which followed a rather surprising 2022 campaign in which they went 9-7-1 and upset the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.

New York kick offs training camp July 26, with preseason beginning August 8 against the Detroit Lions. It will open the regular season against the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 8.
