New York Giants Trade For Veteran Quarterback In This Proposal

The New York Giants are going into the 2024 season with some concerns at the quarterback position. The Giants will be going with Daniel Jones as the starting quarterback, but not without some worries.

While Jones recently signed a big extension, the team and the fanbase don’t appear to have much faith in him. Jones is coming back from an ACL surgery, but should be ready to go by Week 1. Furthermore, he has also recently dealt with neck problems, as durability for him is an issue.

This offseason, the Giants added a good backup in Drew Lock to provide themselves with a strong option if Jones either performs poorly or is injured again. Unfortunately, Lock was injured in the Giants’ preseason opener.

With the quarterback position being an issue for the Giants, Bleacher Report recently spoke about them trying to add another veteran into the mix.

Here’s what they had to say about a proposed trade to bring Taylor Heincike to New York.

Atlanta Falcons receive: 2025 sixth-round pick

New York Giants receive: QB Taylor Heinicke, 2025 seventh-round pick

“The trade market may be bleak at this juncture, but the Atlanta Falcons do have a serviceable quarterback who might be able to stabilize New York’s quarterback situation in Taylor Heinicke.

The 31-year-old started four games for the Falcons—his fourth team since entering the league in 2017—last year but failed to click with then-head coach Arthur Smith’s offense. With Atlanta signing Kirk Cousins and using a first-round pick on Michael Penix Jr., Heinicke is now slated to be buried on the depth chart as the No. 3, a status that makes him expendable.

Heinicke is not a player Big Blue would want to feature under center for any significant stretch, but for the low cost of a late-round pick swap, the Giants could fix up their depth behind an injury-prone starting quarterback.”

Taylor Heinicke would be a solid backup for the Giants

Heinicke has some experience as a starter in the league with the Commanders and Falcons last season. Heinicke might not be someone you want to start a lot of games, but he has been proven capable in the league.

The Giants do still have Tommy DeVito on the roster, who was a bit of a folk hero for the team last season. However, with the team signing Lock this offseason, it is likely an indication that the team doesn’t believe he can be a backup in the league.

As the preseason rolls on, we will have to see if the Giants look to add another quarterback into the mix.
