This offseason, there’s a possibility for a family reunion at the New York Jets, according to insights from Rich Cimini of ESPN. He sheds light on an intriguing connection between a pending free agent and a fresh addition to the Gang Green coaching staff as the new league year looms. Aaron Rodgers would also love the move.
“‘Interesting note: [new Jets WR coach Shawn Jefferson] coached Hollywood Brown in Arizona a couple of years ago. Brown will be a free agent [this offseason]. Something to write down perhaps as we get closer to free agency.”
Marquise “Hollywood” Brown is set to hit free agency, with Spotrac’s market value projections indicating a potential $59.5 million contract for the dynamic receiver, earning him the 17th spot among the NFL’s highest-paid wideouts, according to Over The Cap.
At 26, Brown still has youth on his side, leaving room for argument that he hasn’t peaked as a player yet. Across five seasons, he’s featured in 72 games, making 65 starts, and has impressive stats to show for it: 313 receptions, 3,644 receiving yards, and 28 touchdowns.
While Brown’s talent is evident, he’s had only one 1,000-yard season, which was in 2021. His journey in the pros has been hindered by injuries, completing a full season just once.
Pro Football Focus (PFF) projects Brown to secure a one-year deal in free agency worth $12 million, fully guaranteed. This seems a more fitting valuation considering his recent performance dip amidst unfavorable circumstances.
A short-term deal could provide Brown with an opportunity to prove himself, elevate his worth for the future, and benefit from catching passes from none other than future Hall of Famer, Aaron Rodgers. The New York Jets would be wise to take a look at this option.
