NFC South: 3 Rookies Set to Make an Immediate Impact

Marvin Gentry, USA TODAY Sports

Calvin Ridley, WR, Falcons

University of Alabama stud wide receiver Calvin Ridley was drafted by the Falcons with the 26th pick of the first round. Ridley posted over 2,800 yards and scored 20 touchdowns in his three seasons at Alabama before foregoing his senior year and entering the NFL draft.

This kid is going to get the ball in bunches. It’s no secret the Falcons have one of the most high-powered, fast-paced offenses in the NFL. With the multiple weapons that veteran quarterback Matt Ryan has at his disposal, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this 23-year-old from Ft. Lauderdale, FL come out and open up the offense even more.

Ridley joins arguably the best wide receiver in the game in Julio Jones and proven wideout Mohamed Sanu, along with running backs Devonte Freeman and Tevin Coleman. With all the attention these tenured players are going to receive from opposing defenses, expect Ridley to have Ryan’s eyes on him in a lot of check down and underneath situations.
