Ronald Jones II, RB, Buccaneers
There are a lot of people on the hot seat down in Tampa. From quarterback Jameis Winston’s off the field struggles, to head coach Dirk Koetter’s inability to maintain consistency, the Buccaneers need to start winning and now. There are two very obvious major factors to the Bucs losing ways. The terrible defense and the absolute non-existent running game.
I still think we haven’t seen the best of Winston, and that’s because defenses know that the rushing attack isn’t the threat in Tampa. A good, smart, and aggressive running back has the ability to completely blow the field wide open for Winston and company. That is where I think University of Southern California running back Ronald Jones II steps in.
Jones, the 38th pick in the NFL Draft, has been drawing comparisons to the great Jamaal Charles. He ran for over 3,600 yards while at USC and reached the end zone 42 times. His speed and quickness can help keep the fast-paced tempo Koetter likes to have on his offense and can really help keep drives moving. I don’t expect Jones to get the ball relentlessly as there are other options in the backfield, but I do think he establishes himself as the number one back very quickly and will be in talks for Offensive Rookie of the Year at the end of the season.
