NFL: 3 teams who should push for an Earl Thomas signing before Week 1

It’s not often a talent like Earl Thomas is available this close to the start of the NFL season. However, it’s also not often that a veteran talent is waived in training camp due to conduct detrimental to the team.

The Ravens moved on from Thomas after giving him a four-year, $55 million deal in 2019. With the conduct detrimental to the team designation, Baltimore managed to save cap room on what they would have previously had to pay him. For Thomas, he is now an unrestricted free agent.

Thomas enters a free agent market that features solid safeties including Logan Ryan, Tony Jefferson, and Clayton Geathers, all still seeking to find their next squad. Teams will have options if they don’t want to take a risk on Thomas, but there are still plenty of organizations that should give it consideration.

Thomas, 30, is coming off a 2019 season that featured 49 combined tackles (2 for loss), 6 QB hits, 2.0 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 4 pass breakups. He played an integral role for the Ravens’ defense en route to a 14-2 record.

With that, let’s take a look at five teams who should make a push to sign former Baltimore Ravens safety Earl Thomas.
